Sabendo que os alunos de Biologia querem saber mais para além das aulas abordadas na Faculdade, que querem "pôr a mão na massa" o mais cedo possível, e sabendo, por outro lado, que há muitos professores e investigadores ou até empregadores ávidos de ter novos aprendizes que fluoresçam e reconheçam a sua "arte" ao mesmo tempo que os ajudam, o NEBFCUL tomou a iniciativa de unir alunos, professores, investigadores e demais interessados. 

Assim, trazemos-te alguns trabalhos que estão a decorrer, para que possas contribuir com a tua ajuda e, simultaneamente, aprender mais sobre o que gostas ou o que poderás vir a fazer no futuro, como biólogo/a.


No entanto, antes de começares a explorar, por favor lê as instruções que te vamos dar a seguir, para que tudo decorra da melhor maneira possível!


Instruções:

1. Vê todos os trabalhos antes, com muita atenção, antes de começares a enviar mails - os professores e cientistas gostam de ver o seu trabalho reconhecido, e só querem pessoas realmente interessadas nos seus projectos, por isso, investiga primeiro.

2. Certifica-te de que tens algum tempo livre e que o consegues conciliar com o da pessoa que te vai receber e acompanhar.

3. Estipula uma duração mais ou menos predefinida com a pessoa que te vai receber (nalguns casos são necessários tempos mínimos de trabalho, uma vez que o objectivo é ser uma iniciativa quid pro quo).

4. Quando falares pessoalmente com a pessoa com quem vais trabalhar, certifica-te que estás mesmo interessado e, se não estiveres, informa logo quem te irá receber. Não desistas a meio do "contrato". 

5. Antes de iniciares os projectos, tenta fazer o melhor trabalho de casa possível: investiga/estuda o que vais fazer.

The IGC summer internship aims at receiving talented students who wish to taste the life of a researcher in basic sciences. It is tailored to students who are interested in (or contemplating) applying for graduate studies in life sciences. We offer an international scientific environment, multidisciplinary seminars, and integration in one participant lab up to 3 months. By the end of the internship, the work developed will be presented in a symposium to the IGC community.

Neurogenetics of locomotion

Centro de Estudos de Doenças Crónicas (CEDOC), Lisboa

"Our research aims to understand the mechanisms, genes and circuits that govern coordinated locomotion under normal or pathological conditions. For this we use a genetically tractable model system, the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster, which combines powerful genetic tools with sophisticated and detailed kinematic quantification approaches. This combination allows assigning a gene or neuronal circuit to a specific aspect of motor control. Considering how motor systems and the genes that define them are evolutionarily conserved, our work will impact the study of motor control of more complex organisms and lay the foundation for the study of human pathologies as diverse as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) and rehabilitation upon stroke or incapacitating lesions.
Our research projects include a.) Determine the role of motor circuits in fine motor control; b.) Understand the genes and mechanisms regulating motor plasticity; c.) Identify genes involved in motor neuron specificity; and d.). Develop motor disease models in the fruit fly. "
